The RV Tire Buying Guide

After you’ve owned your RV for a while, the time will come when you will need to select new tires. Getting the right tires for your RV is critical. If you follow a few simple guidelines, you will be able to understand what type of tires your RV needs and what RV tires are the right tires for your particular circumstances.

When you look at the tires that are currently on your RV, you will notice a series of numbers and letters. These all have a meaning, and they are essential when you select new tires for your vehicle. One number you will see may be similar to 305/70/r17. This number tells you the width in millimeters and the height of the tire in inches. When you get a replacement tire, you want to get a tire that matches these numbers. You will also want to get a tire with the proper load rating.

An RV is a heavy vehicle, and it needs the right type of tire to bear the load properly. On the sidewall, the tire will list the maximum load if used as a single and as a dual tire. Always purchase a new tire that has a load limit as high or higher than the tire you are replacing. The next consideration is where you will be driving the RV. If you are going to be operating in snowy conditions, you will want a tire that has M+S on the sidewall. This stands for mud and snow, and it means that the tire is approved for driving in all seasons.
